Hi-Fi Prototype

Being hard of hearing and using hearing aids, I found I had limited control over my hearing aids. If it's a loud environment like a fast food restaurant or grocery store, I will more than likely take them out. I wanted to be able to give users control of their hearing so that they could keep their hearing aids in any type of environment

Bar chart showing projected global hearing loss in millions for 2019, 2030, 2040, and 2050. The numbers increase from 430 million in 2019 to 711 million in 2050.

currently for this issue are to take out the hearing aid,  try to lower the volume of the hearing aid, or go to an audiologist to have your hearing aids adjusted.

Currently, there are four hundred forty-six million people worldwide with disabling hearing loss. Researchers suggest that by 2050, 1 in 10 people will have disabling hearing loss.

Those with hearing aids complain about noisy environments because their hearing aids will make it louder or screech in their ears. The only solutions

While I was designing the Hi-Fi, or high fidelity prototype, I really wanted to communicate how important and impactful hearing loss can be. I wanted to let anyone who has hearing loss know they aren't alone. The Western Tennessee Hearing & Speech Center said this about Hearing loss and mental health.

A worried person holding their ear, indicating discomfort or hearing issue.

"Hearing plays a crucial role in how you interact with and connect to the world around you. That means hearing loss can affect your relationships, confidence, and even your desire to socialize.

For some, this hidden emotional impact of not hearing clearly or missing out on gatherings can be overwhelming — in fact, hearing loss may be strongly linked with both anxiety and depression."

Because of how taxing hearing loss can be physically and mentally I knew I wanted to incorporate the Deaf Awareness Month ribbon and Hearing Impaired ribbon to bring together a community of people.

Using those ribbons colors is a way when a user opens the app and sees the blue with silver and gold accents it is a constant reminder that they are never alone.

Two awareness ribbons, one blue and one gray with gold, on a plain white background.

This is the current Hi-Fi Prototype. Changes will continually be made as I try to push this through development to allow every user to reclaim their hearing!
